Who Can Approve Time Off Requests?

Have more questions? Submit a request

Atto provides flexibility in handling time off requests. By default, only admins can approve or reject requests, but they can enable manager approvals if they want managers to handle this process.

How to Enable Manager Approvals

Admins can adjust this setting under Time Off Preferences:

  1. Go to Settings > Time Off Preferences.

  2. Locate the Require Manager Approval option.

  3. Toggle ON to allow managers to approve or reject time off requests.

  4. Toggle OFF if only admins should handle approvals.

If enabled, managers will receive notifications when a new request is submitted.

How Managers Can Approve or Reject Requests

Once enabled, managers can manage requests in the Time Off section:

  1. Go to Dashboard > Time Off > Team.

  2. Select a request to view details such as dates, time off type, and notes.

  3. Approve or reject the request:

    • Approved requests are added to the employee’s timesheet and schedule.

    • Rejected requests are archived, and the employee is notified.

Key Considerations

  • If manager approvals are disabled, managers can still view requests but cannot approve or reject them.

  • Managers cannot modify or cancel an approved request — only admins have that permission.

  • Admins can adjust these settings at any time in Time Off Preferences.

Best Practices for Admins

  • Enable manager approvals if team leads need to handle time off for their teams.

  • Keep approvals admin-only if centralized control is preferred.

  • Ensure notifications are enabled so managers receive updates on new requests.
