Team Member Forgot to Clock Out? Here's What Happens

Updated this week

If a team member forgets to clock out at the end of their shift, Atto continues tracking time until the issue is addressed. Here’s how it works, and what you can do to correct or prevent it.

What Happens When Someone Forgets to Clock Out

  • The timecard timer continues to run until the team member manually clocks out

  • Admins or Managers can also clock out the user manually if needed

How Night Shifts Are Handled

If a shift runs past midnight, how the hours are recorded depends on your account’s Night Shift Tracking settings:

Automatic Split

  • Atto will automatically split the time entry at midnight

  • Hours after midnight appear as a separate entry for the next day

Carryover

  • The entire shift — including post-midnight hours — will be counted on the original start day

Fixing Timecards Manually

If a time entry is incorrect due to a missed clock out:

  • Admins and Managers can manually edit the timecard for accuracy

How to Prevent Missed Clock-Outs

1. Reminder Notifications

Encourage team members to use Clock-Out Reminders to reduce forgetfulness.

  • Set up notifications for specific clock-out times

2. Supervisor Oversight

Encourage managers to:

  • Monitor team activity regularly

  • Address recurring habits of missed clock-outs directly with the team
