Night Shift Tracking Options

Updated over a month ago

Atto provides flexible settings to help you track night shifts accurately and align with your team’s scheduling needs. You can choose to split timecards at midnight or keep the full shift under the original clock-in date.

Option 1: Split Timecards at Midnight

When enabled, timecards are automatically split at 12:00 AM. Hours worked after midnight are recorded as a new time entry for the following day.

How to enable:

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Select Time Options

  3. Toggle Split Timesheet at Midnight to ON

| Best for: Teams needing daily totals to match calendar days — ideal for payroll reports or compliance tracking.

Option 2: Keep Timecard Continuous

When this option is disabled, hours worked past midnight are counted toward the day the team member clocked in. The timecard continues uninterrupted, even if the shift spans multiple calendar days.

| Best for: Overnight shifts where you want to view the full work session as one entry.

How Night Shifts Are Displayed

If a shift includes hours past midnight, Atto displays a moon icon next to that timecard (on the web and mobile). This icon indicates that the timecard crosses calendar days — a helpful reference when reviewing or editing entries.

Why This Matters

  • Accurate Reporting – Choose the setup that best fits your payroll and compliance needs.

  • Clear Timecards – Automatically separate or combine night shift hours for easy viewing.

  • Team Clarity – Helps admins and employees easily recognize overnight shifts.
