Open Shifts in Atto provide flexibility by allowing employees to claim additional shifts as needed, helping managers fill gaps in the schedule. This article explains the purpose of open shifts, when to use them, and how they appear in the schedule.

What are Open Shifts?

Open Shifts are unassigned shifts created by managers, available for any qualified employee to claim. They’re useful in situations where:

  • Specific shift assignments aren’t necessary, but coverage is needed.

  • Extra hands are needed for certain days or times, allowing employees to pick up additional work based on availability.

When and How to Create Open Shifts

Managers can create Open Shifts whenever flexible coverage is beneficial. Here’s how:

  1. Access the Scheduling Page: Tap the floating + icon at the bottom right to start creating a shift.

  2. Set Shift Details: Choose the date(s), start and end times, and job site if applicable.

  3. Mark as Open Shift: Select the option to make it an open shift and specify the number of available spots. Assign a job code to define the role requirements for the shift.

Once created, open shifts appear in the Open Shifts view for employees to review and claim.

How Open Shifts Appear in the Schedule

Open shifts are listed in the Open Shifts view on the Scheduling page, making them accessible to employees looking for additional hours. Here’s how they function:

  • Claiming Open Shifts: Employees can tap on any open shift in the view to claim it, which will add it to their personal schedule under My Shifts.

  • Notifications for New Open Shifts: Employees receive notifications when new open shifts are added, making it easy to stay informed of available opportunities.

Using open shifts helps teams manage dynamic schedules, allowing employees to take on extra work and managers to maintain flexible coverage.
