Understanding Time Card Entry Overlaps

Atto's time entry system is designed to ensure data integrity and prevent inconsistencies in work hour records. One way it achieves this is by preventing time card entry overlaps. A time card entry overlap occurs when you attempt to add or edit a time entry, and the clock-in or clock-out times of the new or modified entry overlap with the clock-in or clock-out times of an existing time card for the same day.

Identifying Time Card Entry Overlaps

When you add or edit a time card and an overlap occurs, Atto will display an error message informing you of the conflict. The error message will provide additional details about the existing time card that is causing the overlap. You can then choose to view the existing time card for more context or make adjustments to the clock-in or clock-out times of the new or modified entry to resolve the overlap.

Preventing Time Card Entry Overlaps

To minimize the occurrence of time entry overlaps, follow these guidelines:

  • Review Existing Time Cards: Before adding or editing a time card, review the existing time card for the team member and date in question. This will help you identify potential overlaps and avoid conflicts.
  • Ensure Accurate Clock-in/Clock-out Times: Carefully enter the correct clock-in and clock-out times for each time card. Double-check the times to ensure they accurately reflect the team member's work hours.
  • Adhere to Break and Job Time Restrictions: Remember that breaks cannot start or end outside of the clock-in and clock-out times, and jobs cannot start or end outside of the clock-in and clock-out times, or during break time periods.
