Troubleshooting Common Location Tracking (GPS) Issues

Updated over a month ago

Atto’s GPS tracking ensures reliable visibility into your team’s location while on the clock. If location updates aren’t showing as expected, follow these tips to resolve common tracking issues based on device type.

iOS Devices

✅ What to Check:

  • Location Services are Enabled

Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services
Make sure the main toggle is turned ON.

This ensures your phone allows any app to access location data.

  • Atto Has Location Access

Go to Settings > Atto > Location

Set to Always for full tracking during shifts.

Needed so Atto can track your location consistently — even when the app is minimized.

  • Precise Location is Enabled (iOS 14+)

Go to Settings > Atto > Location > Precise Location
Toggle it ON to improve accuracy.

This helps Atto get your exact location instead of a rough estimate.

  • Cellular Data is ON

    Go to Settings > Cellular
Ensure both Cellular Data and Atto are enabled.

Location data needs an internet connection to be sent to Atto in real time.

  • Wi-Fi is ON

Even if not connected, Wi-Fi scanning improves GPS accuracy by using nearby signals.

  • Avoid Force-Quitting the App

Swiping Atto off your screen can pause background tracking — keep it running.

  • Low Power Mode is OFF

    Go to Settings > Battery
Turn OFF Low Power Mode — it restricts background tracking.

This mode limits location updates to save battery — best to keep it off during shifts.

  • Background App Refresh is ON

Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh

Set to Wi-Fi & Cellular Data, and ensure it’s ON for Atto.

Allows Atto to refresh your location even when you’re not actively using the app.

Android Devices

✅ What to Check:

  • Location Services are ON

    Go to Settings > Location

Turns on device-wide GPS — required for any app to collect location data.

  • Location Mode is High Accuracy

Go to Settings > Location > Location Services > Google Location Accuracy

Enable Improve Location Accuracy or set Mode: High Accuracy.

Combines GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks for the most precise tracking.

  • Atto Has Location Access

Go to Settings > Apps > Atto > Permissions > Location

Set to Allow all the time (for Android 10+).

Ensures that Atto can update your location even when it’s running in the background.

  • Cellular Data is ON

Go to Settings > Network > Mobile Data

Live location requires an internet connection to update the server in real time.

  • Wi-Fi is ON
Turning on Wi-Fi — even if not connected — improves GPS precision.

  • Battery Optimization is Disabled for Atto

Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization > Atto

    Select Don’t Optimize

Battery savers often pause background tracking — disabling it keeps Atto running.

  • Data Saver is OFF for Atto

Go to Settings > Network > Data Saver

Restricting background data can stop location updates — allow full access.

  • Auto-Cleanup is Disabled for Atto

Some Android devices close unused apps automatically.

Exempt Atto so it stays active.

  • Auto-Start is Enabled

Allows Atto to start tracking right when the phone boots up — no need to open it manually.
