Requesting a Shift Cover

Updated over 2 months ago

This guide explains how to request someone to cover your shift in Atto. Whether you have a last-minute conflict or need time off, the Cover Shift request lets your teammates step in — and keeps schedules running smoothly.

How to Request a Shift Cover

To request a cover:

  1. Go to your Dashboard.

  2. Tap the Schedule shortcut at the top.

  3. Open your shift you want someone to cover.

  4. Tap Request, then select Cover Shift.

  5. Select one or more available team members.

  6. (Optional) Add a note for context.

  7. Tap Send Request and confirm.

| If no team members are available, you’ll see a message letting you know that no one is eligible to cover this shift.

When Can a Cover Be Requested?

A cover can be requested if:

  • The selected team members don’t have overlapping shifts.

  • Shift Request Permissions are enabled by your admin.

Managing Cover Requests

Team Requests (Received from Others)

Go to Dashboard > Shift Requests > Cover Shift > Team

Here, you’ll find two sections:

  • Upcoming – Requests for future shifts.

  • Past – Requests for shifts that have already occurred.

Each request includes:

  • Requester’s name

  • Shift date & times

  • Job code (if any)

  • Job site (if any)

  • Request status

Pending Requests:

You’ll see full shift details and can Accept or Decline.

  • Accepting assigns you the shift and updates the schedule.

  • Declining keeps the original schedule unchanged.

Archived Requests:

Accepted, declined, and expired requests are archived with full details for reference.

A request is marked as expired if:

  • The shift start time has passed.

  • Someone else has accepted the request.

| If an admin or manager edits the shift — or removes the teammate from the account — the request is automatically cancelled.

My Requests (Sent by You)

Go to Dashboard > Shift Requests > Cover Shift > Mine

View all requests you’ve sent, split into:

  • Upcoming

  • Past

Each request shows:

  • Your original shift details

  • Request status

  • Names of all teammates the request was sent to

Pending Requests:

You can:

  • Cancel the whole request

  • Cancel individual requests without affecting others

Archived Requests:

Accepted,Declined & Expired requests are archived with all details visible. You’ll see:

  • Who accepted or declined

  • When the request changed status

| If the shift is edited by an admin or manager, the entire request is cancelled automatically.

Important Notes

  • Permissions: Admins must enable Cover Shift Requests from Settings for this option to appear.

  • Notifications: Both sides are notified at every step — sent, accepted, declined, expired — so everyone stays in the loop.
