Requesting a Shift Trade

Updated over 2 months ago

Atto makes it easy for employees to request shift trades directly from the Dashboard > Schedule view. This gives your team more flexibility while keeping the schedule organized and transparent for everyone involved.

How to Request a Shift Trade

To request a shift trade:

  1. Go to your Dashboard.

  2. Tap the Schedule shortcut at the top.

  3. Select your shift you want to trade from the Mine or All Shifts tab.

  4. Tap the Request button at the bottom of the shift details.

  5. Choose Trade Shift.

If your shift is eligible for trade, you’ll see a list of shifts from other teammates that match trade conditions. You can:

  • Select one or multiple shifts you’d like to offer the trade to.

  • Add an optional note to explain the request.

  • Tap Send Request to confirm.

| If no matching shifts are available, you’ll see a message letting you know that no eligible shifts are currently available for trade.

How Trade Requests Work

Shift trade requests follow a two-way approval process. Once sent:

  • The recipient will receive a notification.

  • They can choose to Accept or Decline the trade.

  • If accepted, the shifts are swapped and both schedules update.

  • If declined, your original shift remains unchanged.

Where to Track Your Shift Trades

Go to Dashboard > Shift Requests to view and manage all trade activity.

You’ll see two tabs:

  • Team: Requests you’ve received.

  • Mine: Requests you’ve sent.

Each tab is grouped into:

  • Upcoming: Requests for future shifts.

  • Past: Requests that are already completed or expired.

Understanding Request Statuses

🟡 Pending – Waiting for approval from the other team member.

🟢 Accepted – The shift was successfully traded and both schedules are updated.

🔴 Declined – The request was turned down. Your original shift stays the same.

⚪️ Expired – The trade wasn’t accepted before the shift started or another request was accepted.

| Note: If a manager or admin edits a shift that’s part of a pending request, the trade will be cancelled.

Important Notes

  • Permissions – Trade requests must be enabled by your admin in Company Settings under Shift Request Permissions

  • Notifications: Both the requester and the recipient are notified at every step, so everyone stays in the loop.

  • Request Outcome – If a request is declined or expires, the original shift remains unchanged
