Atto’s real-time location tracking depends on several factors to keep team member locations visible and up to date. If a team member’s location isn’t updating as expected, review the points below to identify and resolve the issue.
Connectivity Issues
Internet Connection
A stable connection—Wi-Fi or mobile data—is required to transmit live location data. If the team member has limited or no internet access, updates may be delayed or unavailable.
Background App Refresh
This must be enabled for Atto to update location while the app is running in the background. Without it, tracking may pause unless the app is open.
Account Status & Permissions
Logged Out
Location tracking stops when a user is logged out. Confirm the team member is signed into their Atto account while on the clock.
Location Permissions
Atto needs permission to access the device’s location. Without proper permissions, tracking will not work. See this guide:
User-Level Tracking Settings
Check if the team member has disabled their own tracking under user-specific preferences. This would prevent location updates, even if enabled at the account level.
Device-Related Issues
Airplane Mode
Airplane mode disables all network connections, which stops GPS tracking. Make sure it’s turned off.
Low Battery
Devices running low on battery may limit app functionality, including GPS updates. Ask the team member to keep their device charged during shifts.
Power Off or Restart
If the device has shut down or restarted unexpectedly, tracking will pause until the app is reopened.
Device Temperature
Extreme cold or heat can impact how the device functions, including location accuracy and update intervals.
Additional Considerations
Stationary for a Long Time
If the team member hasn’t moved from their location, Atto will update less frequently to conserve battery and data. Tracking resumes once movement is detected.
Weak GPS Signal
Poor GPS coverage in certain buildings, remote areas, or underground spaces may delay or reduce location accuracy. Moving to an area with stronger signal can help.
