Atto's Location Tracking Practices

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Atto is designed to respect your team’s privacy while still offering powerful location tracking tools when needed. Tracking is only active during working hours, and no data is collected outside of clocked-in time.

When Location Tracking Starts

Location tracking begins only after a team member clocks in. This ensures that personal time is not monitored and only work-related activity is recorded.

When Atto Tracks Location During the Workday

While someone is clocked in, Atto may record their location during the following actions:

  • Opening the Atto app – The current location is logged to keep timesheets accurate.

  • Moving a significant distance – If the device detects travel, location updates help reflect movement between job sites.

  • While on the move – Continuous tracking can provide insights into travel routes and time spent in transit (if real-time tracking is enabled).

  • Ending a break – When a team member resumes work, their location is recorded.

  • Clocking out – A final location is logged before location tracking stops.

  • When requested by a manager – Admins or managers can request a one-time location update for visibility during active work hours.

When Location Tracking Stops

Location tracking is automatically disabled in these cases:

  • Starting a break – No tracking is done while a team member is on break.

  • Clocking out – Location tracking ends the moment the team member finishes their shift.

  • Turning off location services – If device-level location is disabled, Atto cannot track any location data.

Location History Reports

If real-time tracking is enabled in your account, Atto generates a location history report during clocked-in time. These reports help admins and managers view:

  • Time spent at job sites

  • Routes taken during travel

  • Overall time spent in motion
