Automating Break Time Deductions

Updated over a month ago

Atto’s Automatic Break Rule makes it easy to apply standard break times across your team. Instead of requiring manual clock-ins and outs for breaks, this feature automatically deducts a fixed break period from each workday — helping ensure consistency, accuracy, and payroll compliance.

How to Enable Automatic Break Deductions

  1. Go to Settings > Break Preferences

  2. Select Automatic Break Rule

  3. Set Break Length – Define the number of minutes to deduct per workday

  4. Choose Break Type – Select whether the break is Paid or Unpaid

  5. Save your changes

Once enabled, Atto will automatically subtract this break from each daily timecard — no manual action required from employees.

How It Works

  • The break is deducted after clock-out, based on the total hours worked that day.

  • The deduction is applied once per day.

  • Employees will not see a “Take Break” option in the app — the break is handled automatically.

Why Use Automatic Break Deductions?

  • Consistency – Apply the same break policy to all employees

  • Time-Saving – Reduces admin work and manual edits

  • Accurate Payroll – Ensures hours are adjusted correctly based on paid/unpaid rules

  • Policy Compliance – Helps meet legal or internal break time requirements
