Understanding Amendments

Updated over 3 weeks ago

An amendment is used to correct payroll errors discovered after payroll has already been processed and filed—this includes post-payment corrections and payroll tax filing errors.

When to Use Amendments

Amendments are typically required when:

  • The error occurred in a closed quarter (previous calendar quarter).

  • A simple correction or void is not enough to resolve the issue.

  • Tax filings need to be updated to reflect accurate information.

Common cases include:

  • Incorrect employee wages or tax withholdings

  • Wrong payroll tax agency submissions

  • Adjustments to employee classification or deductions

How to Request an Amendment

To initiate an amendment, submit a support ticket to Atto with the following information:

  • Quarter: Indicate which quarter the error occurred in.

  • Agencies: List any payroll tax agencies involved.

  • Employees Impacted: Identify which employees were affected.

  • Amendment Amount: Provide the corrected amounts that need to be updated.

Important Notes

  • Amendments typically take longer to process than voids due to the extra review and approvals required.

  • Our team will guide you through any additional steps if more documentation is needed.
