Types of Pay Periods
Weekly
Employees are paid once a week — typically every Friday.
52 pay periods per year.
Biweekly
Employees are paid every two weeks on a specific weekday (e.g., every other Friday).
26 pay periods per year.
Semimonthly
Employees are paid twice a month on fixed dates, usually the 15th and last business day of the month.
24 pay periods per year.
Monthly
Employees are paid once per month on a set date.
12 pay periods per year.
