Handling Deductions, Benefits, and Garnishments

Atto Payroll provides flexible tools for managing deductions, benefits, and court-ordered garnishments for your team. These settings help ensure accurate payroll and tax compliance.


Deductions


You can set up the following deduction types for your employees:

  • Pre-tax deductions

    These are withheld before taxes are calculated and can reduce the employee’s taxable income.

    Examples: Health insurance premiums, 401(k) contributions, HSA contributions.

  • Post-tax deductions

    These are withheld after taxes are applied.

    Examples: Union dues, parking fees, charitable contributions.


Garnishments

Garnishments are legally mandated deductions that must be taken from an employee’s paycheck to pay off specific debts.

Examples: Child support, student loan repayments, back taxes.

Atto supports garnishment processing and ensures these amounts are deducted and reported properly.


How to Set Up Deductions or Garnishments in Atto

  1. Log into your Atto Payroll account.

  2. Go to the Team tab.

  3. Select the employee and click View Employee.

  4. Navigate to the Garnishment & Deductions tab.

  5. Click Manage or Add Deduction.

  6. Choose the deduction type, enter the details, and save.
