Tracking Paid and Unpaid Breaks

Updated over 2 months ago

If your team takes multiple breaks during the day and you need to distinguish between paid and unpaid time, you can use Custom Break Rules in Atto to manage this with accuracy and consistency.

Setting Up Custom Break Rules

  1. Go to Settings > Break Preferences

  2. Under Break Rule, select Custom

  3. Tap Add New Break Type

  4. Enter a name for the break (e.g., “Lunch Break” or “Paid Rest Break”)

  5. Choose whether the break is Paid or Unpaid

  6. Click Add Break Type to save

How Custom Breaks Work

Once you’ve added custom break types:

  • Team members will be prompted to select a break type when they tap “Take Break” in the Time Clock

  • The selected break will appear in their Timesheet

  • Break time will be classified as paid or unpaid based on the setup, and this will be reflected in the Timesheet Overview

Benefits of Custom Break Rules

  • Better Categorization

Clearly define which breaks are paid vs. unpaid for more accurate payroll

  • Improved Timesheet Accuracy

Ensure that timecards reflect the true nature and duration of each break

  • Simplified Tracking

Makes it easy for employees to select the correct break type with a single tap

By enabling Custom Break Rules, you can manage break time more effectively while supporting accurate reporting and streamlined payroll.
