Setting Break Tracking Preferences

Updated over 2 months ago

Atto offers four break tracking options to match your company’s policies and workflow. Whether your team takes standard breaks or needs flexible logging, these options ensure accurate, compliant time tracking.

Break Tracking Options

1. Manual Break Tracking

  • Team members manually start and end breaks

  • Ideal for companies with flexible break schedules

  • Admins can set breaks as paid or unpaid in settings

2. Automatic Break Tracking

  • A fixed break is automatically deducted daily

  • Best for companies with standardized break times

  • Set the break duration and whether it’s paid or unpaid — Atto does the rest

3. Custom Break Tracking

  • Allows team members to choose from multiple break types (e.g., Lunch, Coffee)

  • Each break can have a unique duration and paid/unpaid status

  • Break types are selectable directly from the app for accurate tracking

4. Advanced Break Tracking

  • Combines automatic deductions with custom break rules

  • Supports complex schedules with categorized and automated breaks

  • Ideal for companies needing both consistency and flexibility

How to Set Break Preferences

  1. Go to Settings > Break Preferences

  2. Choose your preferred break tracking method

  3. Customize the rules:

    • For Manual/Custom: Define break types and whether they are paid

    • For Automatic/Advanced: Set duration, frequency, and deduction rules

  4. Tap Save to activate your configuration

Choosing Your Break Tracking Method

The best tracking method depends on your team’s break routines and how you prefer to manage them. Consider whether break times are consistent or vary throughout the day. Choose the option that makes tracking easier for both employees and admins, while keeping your records accurate and hassle-free.

Why It Matters

  • Compliance: Meets labor law requirements on break tracking

  • Accuracy: Distinguishes between paid and unpaid time

  • Efficiency: Improves timekeeping clarity for both staff and admins

By choosing the right break tracking method, your team benefits from greater transparency and your admins benefit from more reliable payroll and reporting data.
