How do I troubleshoot issues with GPS tracking?
If you find that a user’s location is not updating properly, follow the troubleshooting tips below:
On iOS:
- Turn ON location services: To enable, open your device's Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Enable "Location Services."
- Set location access for Atto to "Always Allow": To enable, open your device's Settings > Select Atto from the list of apps > Tap on Location > Set allow location access to "Always."
- Enable "Precise Location" on iOS 14 or later: To enable, open your device's Settings > Select Atto from the list of apps > Tap on Location > Enable "Precise Location."
- Enable cellular data: To enable, open your device's Settings > Cellular > Ensure "Cellular Data" and cellular data for Atto are enabled.
- Enable WiFi: An active WiFi network can greatly improve location accuracy even when not connected.
- Do not force-quit Atto: Force-quitting occurs when you manually quit the app by swiping it off the screen or when using battery/memory boosting apps.
- Disable low power mode: When on low power mode, the device can prevent Atto from running in the background. To disable, go to Settings > Battery > Ensure that Low Power Mode is disabled.
- Enable background app refresh: To enable, open your device's Settings > General > Background App Refresh > Ensure that Background App Refresh is ON for "WiFi & Cellular Data" and enabled for Atto.
On Android:
- Turn ON location services: To enable, open your device's Settings app > Tap on Location > Enable the Location option.
- Set location mode to High Accuracy: To enable, open your device's Settings app > Tap "Security & Location" or "Location" > Tap "Advanced" and then "Google Location Accuracy" if available > Verify that "High Accuracy" is selected.
- Allow Atto to access your location: To enable, open your device's Settings app > Applications > Atto > Permissions > Enable the Location option.
- Set location access to "Allowed all the time" on Android 10 or later: Open your device's Settings app > Tap on Location > Select Atto from the list > Make sure "Allowed all the time" is selected.
- Enable cellular data: To enable, open your device’s Settings app > Tap on Network > Make sure that “Mobile Data” or “Cellular Data” is enabled.
- Enable WiFi: An active WiFi network can greatly improve location accuracy even when not connected.
- Disable battery optimizers: Battery optimizers can prevent the app from running in the background, not allowing your location to update. Battery optimizer settings are usually found in the battery settings page.
- Disable data saver restriction: To disable, open your device's Settings app and look out for phrases like "Data Saver" “Set Mobile Data Limit” or "Restrict Background Data" and ensure those settings are turned OFF for Atto.
- Ensure that Atto is exempt from auto-cleanup settings or third party auto-clean apps
- Ensure that Atto is allowed to auto-start: Some devices may stop applications from starting. Make sure that Atto is exempt from the list.
